A few months ago, I wrote about why I decided to race HYROX. At the time, the race was still ahead of me. The training sessions, the early mornings, the doubts, and the anticipation were all part of the journey.
Now that I've crossed the finish line, I can honestly say that HYROX challenged me in ways I didn't fully expect. Not just physically. Mentally. Emotionally.
As a personal trainer serving women across Manhattan, Astoria, and Long Island City, I often ask my clients to trust the process. To stay consistent even when progress feels slow. To keep showing up when motivation fades. HYROX reminded me that those same principles apply to all of us.
The Race Was Harder Than the Training
Training prepares you. The race exposes you.
You can complete every workout, hit every run, and still feel completely different once you're standing on the competition floor. HYROX combines running with functional fitness in a way that constantly tests your ability to recover, adapt, and keep moving forward.
There were moments when my legs felt heavy. There were moments when I wanted to slow down. There were moments when the finish line felt much farther away than it actually was.
But that's exactly why these experiences matter. Growth rarely happens inside your comfort zone.
Strength Is More Than Physical
One of the biggest lessons from HYROX was that strength isn't simply about lifting heavier weights. It's about remaining focused when you're tired. It's about staying calm when things become uncomfortable. It's about trusting the work you've already put in.
Many women come to me believing they need to become stronger physically. What they often discover through consistent strength training is that the confidence they build in training carries over into every area of life.
The same is true in competition. The physical challenge is obvious. The mental challenge is where real growth happens.
Why Competing Makes Me a Better Coach
I believe coaches should continue challenging themselves. Not because clients care about race results, but because personal experience creates empathy.
When I ask a client to trust a program, I understand what that feels like. When I ask someone to push through a difficult workout, I know what that feels like. When a client feels nervous about trying something new, I understand that too.
Competing reminds me what it's like to be the athlete instead of the coach. And that perspective makes me a better fitness coach.
The Power of Consistency
The biggest takeaway from HYROX wasn't a specific station, workout, or finish time. It was a reminder that consistency always wins.
Not perfection. Not motivation. Not talent. Consistency.
The race itself lasted a few hours. The preparation lasted months. Every training session, every recovery day, every small decision contributed to the final result.
That's exactly how fitness works. Whether your goal is building strength, improving body composition, increasing energy, or simply feeling healthier, success comes from the habits you repeat consistently.
What's Next
Crossing the finish line doesn't mean the journey is over. It simply marks the beginning of the next chapter.
I'm proud of what I accomplished at HYROX NYC, but I'm even more grateful for the lessons the experience provided. As both an athlete and a coach, I'm always looking for opportunities to learn, improve, and grow. And those lessons will continue shaping how I help my clients become stronger, healthier, and more confident every day.
Because at the end of the day, fitness isn't about a single race. It's about building a stronger version of yourself, one step at a time.
